Keeping Up with Google and the new Mobile Search Algorithm

Are you receiving from Google Webmaster Tools about your site not having a Mobile-Friendly design?  On April 21, Google launched a new algorithm that is giving preferential mobile search placement to sites that are responsive.

You can test your site using the following URL:https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly

Although over the years there has been a shift toward either setting up a mobile version of your site or coding it with a responsive template, this is the first time that sites will be penalized for not being coded responsively.  And although there is debate on whether responsive is always best, it’s pretty clear that to stay relevant in Google mobile search it HAS to be done.

Most of the cart providers that I use are now providing free responsive templates that can be used with your current logo, sitewide color changes and a new background..  This may be an option for companies and smaller businesses that do not have the budget right now for a responsive re-design.  I’m happy to help you navigate this and offer a mini design package which includes updating any of my compatible hosts’ responsive templates with your logo, matching colors and matching backgrounds.  This service is $150 and takes about 7 – 10 days to complete.  Please contact me if you would like to pursue this option.

If you would like to keep your existing design, I am also offering a full responsive template upgrade for $750.  You can see the details here:

I am booking with limited weekly slots though so book early to insure the quickest turnaround.

Please note that the responsive template upgrade uses your existing template (which does not change) and all of your existing graphics.  It does not include any design work or template changes, just the coding to make the template responsive for mobile.  I guarantee that it will pass google’s test once the upgrade is complete.

Please also note that if you have a separate mobile site then you may not need to recode for responsive.  It appears as though if you have a BigCommerce store and set your mobile site on then you will pass Google’s test but if you have a 3dcart store and set your mobile site on you will not pass Google’s test.  I am not sure of other carts and the settings they have for mobile so when in doubt check on your Google webmaster tools account or use the link above to test.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions!
